Georgia Itinerary

Day 01

Tbilisi

Arrive in Tbilisi. On arrival, you will be met and assisted by our office representative to your hotel (Rooms will be available from 1400 Hrs). In the evening we will have an orientation with the photographer followed by a welcome dinner.

Day 02

Tbilisi

Early in the morning, we will photograph the photogenic and beautifully lit up Narikala Castle, built in the 4th century, then the old sulfur baths with numerous domes, which made a great impression on famous writers such as Pushkin, Lermontov and Dumas. Return to the hotel for breakfast then photograph the colorful murals of the Sioni Church before we stroll in the old and narrow streets of the old part of Tbilisi. In the afternoon, we photograph the Church of Trinity, which is one of the tallest churches in the world. The colorful market of Tbilisi will be our next stop.. a great spot to photograph people in their daily lives.

Day 03

Tbilisi – Imereti

Today we drive to the Imereti region of Georgia, which has a place in the Greek Mythology as Cholchis and was the final destination of the Argonauts looking for the Golden Fleece. Along the way, we will stop at Jvari to photograph the joining of 2 rivers, Aragvi and Kura, forming an interesting and photogenic shape with the old city of Mtskheta in the background. After driving by Gori, birthplace of Stalin, we will stop at Uplistsikhe, “God’s castle”, an old cave city carved out into sand stone formations. Katskhi Pillar is another interesting image, which is a very tall limestone natural pillar with a chapel and hermit’s cell on the top. At the end of the day, we will photograph the 11th century Bagrati Cathedral in Kutaisi. Our hotel in Kutaisi has a great location in the heart of the city.

Day 04

Imereti – Svaneti

We drive onward to Svaneti, located in the famous Caucasus Mountains, which are some of the most interesting mountains to photograph. The drive to Svaneti offers great landscape photo-options: canyons, snow-capped mountains and interesting, unique “tower villages” looking like castles. Along the way and at the end of the day, we will capture the beautiful scenery and the magic of the villages with lit up towers. Our hotel is in Mestia – Svaneti, is a charming, alpine hotel.

Day 05

Svaneti

Today we will discover the highest village in Europe, Ushguli, located at almost 7,000 feet with Mt Shkhara in the background, the highest mountain in Georgia at 17,000 feet. This area offers great landscape scenery with mountains and tower villages. Here, we will photograph our models in their traditional Svanetian dresses with beautiful backgrounds.

Day 06

Svaneti – Batumi

Our scenic drive through the Caucasus mountains will take us to the city of Zugdidi then onward to Batumi, a beautiful town located on the Black Sea. Here, we will photograph the St. Nikholoz Cathedral, the old part of Batumi and the wonderful artwork along the Black Sea. Our hotel overlooks the Black Sea.

Day 07

Batumi – Akhaltsikhe

(By overnight train 8 -9 Hrs)

In the morning in Batumi, we will photograph an impressive waterfall in a beautiful national park. In the afternoon, we will drive to Akhaltsikhe, to photograph the impressive Rabati Castle at night, catching the twilight blue.

Day 08

Akhaltsikhe – Sighnaghi

Today we drive to Sighnaghi, a small castle town, locaed in the wine country of Kakheti region of Georgia. On the way, we will photograph the impressive monastery of David Kareji. Our hotel in Sighnaghi is a small, quaint, boutique hotel with a great view over a beautiful valley.

Day 09

Sighnaghi

In the morning, we photograph this quaint town of Sighnaghi with its restored old houses and castle walls, then we will have a short private concert in a village house so you will be introduced to the Georgian folk music and of course, we will photograph the singers in their traditional clothes. We will also photograph the old winery here. We will spend the afternoon to explore the market of another nearby small town photographing people.

Day 10: 22 Jun 16 (Wednesday)

Sighnaghi – Tbilisi

We make our way back to Tbilisi where we will explore the new part of the city and photograph the modern pedestrian bridge with interesting architecture. We will also take the cable car to Narikala Castle for the view over the city.

Day 11

Tbilisi

Today we will explore another peak of Caucasus Mountains, Mt Kazbegi 16.500 feet where we will also photograph the Trinity Gergeti Church. Along the way, we will stop at Ananuri Fortress which is another great subject matter to photograph.

Day 12

Depart Tbilisi

Transfer to the airport or continue on with our Armenia extension.
