Two Views of Myanmar

This is an initial itinerary which we suggest for an extraordinary photo tour and can be customized for your dates and interests.

Ten years ago Myanmar (Burma) was the hot place for photographers in the know as it opened itself up to visitors. While tourism has become much more developed in Myanmar, there are still many incredibly authentic photographic and cultural experiences to have if you are prepared to dig deeper, and look a little harder. That’s exactly what we have done at A Different Perspective when we created our 12-day Two Views of Myanmar small group tour.

You will visit the classical Myanmar of Yangon, Bagan and Mandalay, the must see places no photo traveler would want to miss. But you will do them in different and more authentic ways, avoiding the tourists and tourist buses at almost every turn.

Then you will go way off the beaten track to visit remote, exotic and mysterious tribal Burma where you will meet, up-close and personal, the cheroot smoking ladies, the tattooed chin people and the black-toothed Akha tribe as well as many more of the tribal ethnic groups.

A Rare Opportunity to Capture the People, Places and Landscapes That Make Myanmar So Special

You will be able to interact with these indigenous people and capture their images as photographic and cultural experiences merge into a single lifetime event. You will gain an understanding of their daily lives, their devout Buddhist religion and their wonderful basic kindness as you capture their unique visages, native dress and wonderful smiles.

As wonderful as the people are, Myanmar overflows with Pagodas, Stupas, marketplaces, small and large villages, rivers with dugout canoes, local parades, flooded rice paddies and on and on. Every one is a unique, personal opportunity to create special and meaningful images. You will find yourself busy, yet tireless, from sunrise to sunset.

You will be led and guided by Win Kyaw Zan. As leading professional photographers such as Art Wolfe, Nevada Wier, Jock Montgomery, Scott Stulberg and Roger Nelson have found out, Win is the guide that you want to travel with in Myanmar. He has an uncanny ability to be in exactly the right spot at the right time of day when the best things happen so you can capture them with your camera. Win is also unequaled in his ability to “chat up” the locals, get the right pose and get them to stay around long enough to make sure you get the shot you want. Need to know the best lens or the ideal ISO for any given moment? Win is an extraordinary photographer in his own right and will be shooting right next to you ready to help.

In Yangon, Bagan and Mandalay we will be staying in 4-5 star hotels and eating at the best Burmese, Chinese and western restaurants in town. In tribal areas we will be utilizing the best available accommodations that guarantee better than acceptable comfort in every case.

If you are looking for a small group photo and cultural tour that offers a well paced, comfortable yet uniquely authentic experience in one of the most picturesque places on earth, with whatever level of personalized photo guidance you want, check out the detailed itinerary and reserve now.
